Summer

Now that summer is official over and I can without a doubt say what happened without fear of change, I figured perhaps I would post on this long forgotten site.
This summer has posed with many changes and challenges, this is true, but it has also been my best summer ever for in it I have found much healing and redemption along with fond memories and new friends.
I spent my time at Camp Andrews as an intern with Heidi Kemp.  There was no such thing as a normal day during summer camp season, but if there was one it would have went something like this:
Breakfast at 8:00
Program from 9:00 to lunch which consisted of ropes course, climbing wall, zip line, giant swing, nature class, archery, and whatever else the group needed or wanted.
Lunch around 12:00
And program again until supper.
The evenings were filled with different things, sometimes for the group and sometimes our own things.
The spring and the fall part of my time here is very similar.  It generally consisted of cleaning or fixing something.  General camp repair after a beating all summer long.  We also have a mentor program which includes weekly (most of the time) bible study and one on one time.  I love it!
And then scattered all through out the year we have canoe and backpacking trips with urban youth.  This was my second year so I was the "leader" from Camp Andrews.  Each trip is special in its very own way with girls that make the trip unique.  I especially enjoyed trips this year because I knew more of the girls, maybe from last year, or whatever ever it was.  Heidi and I teamed pretty well and I enjoyed that as well.

This little guy followed us everyday.  Actually we put him on the river in the morning and would see how long it would take us to catch up to him.  We found him everyday and at the end gave him to one of the girls and all signed it.  Sweet memories.

and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words."

I had a wonderful morning.  It is crisp and cold outside but beautiful clear blue sky.  Amazing.  Did you notice the sunrises and sunsets for the past couple days.  Amazing.  My sunday school class is growing.  Amazing.  Yup, thats my word these past couple days.  "Amazing", because thats what I am.  Amazed.  God has got it all under control.

Jer 29:11-14

For I know the plans

I have for you ," declares the LORD,

"plans to prosper you

and not to harm you,

plans to give you hope and a future.

Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me,

and I will listen to you.

You will seek me

and find me

when you seek me with all your heart.

I will be found by you," declares the LORD,

"and will bring you back from captivity.

DOLLY SOD SHWOONERS

IMG_0297

hung out with these people for a week in west virginia

105_0688

carrying fresh mountain water to campsite!!

105_0691

cooking one pot meals over a campfire nothing like delicious dehydrated food. less to carry!  and actually, they weren't so bad really!

IMG_0261

it was rather chilly even during the day!! i think we woke up to frozen water bottles every morning except maybe one!

IMG_0212

it was very pretty, diverse scenery!!  one time we ended up hiking after dark and I cannot begin to describe the stars to you ~  it was a cold clear night and the stars just went on forever.  most beautiful thing I ever saw ~

105_0752

had a little bit of swamp crossing, but nothing like in the summer when the ground wasn't frozen and the little stream/rivers we could rock hop, so that was nice for the dry feet kind of people!

105_0814

went rock climbing, via ferrata to be exact.  it was totally awesome ~ would luv to do it again!!

105_0825

crossed a swinging bridge ~ it was 150 ft high and 200 ft across! ~ 2X4 steps every 1.5 ft or something like that.

VIA stands for "very intense adventure". "Ferrata" is Italian for "like driving a ferrari". interesting fact I found on there website!

IMG_0330

this picture is taken from the head wall or summit and that little line across the middle is the swinging bridge we crosses ~ pretty sweet huh!!

it was a very good trip, and I'm just putting in a word for those of you that would like to do something like this trip ~ to enjoy nature, be stretched outside of your comfort zone, leave the comfys of home for a little and put in some quality God time. check us out at camp andrews.  we are planning trips for next spring.  !!  in florida!  a beautiful iced tea colored river that wides thru the spanish moss and natural springs called the suwanne river!!

Gonna Make Tracks

Just wanted to ask for prayer.  Going backpacking with camp andrews for the next 10 days.  Please keep me in your prayers if you have a few spare ones.  Gonna be a big learning curve for me.  Extreme desire to see God work in my life and the lives of the others on the trip!  So tired.  Thanks, remind me to post pics afterward.  ttyl
